Itinerary
Day 1: Apollo Bay to Blanket Bay (Hiking)
•Start at Apollo Bay: Enjoy breakfast and pack your hiking and camping gear. Make sure you have enough food, water, and camping essentials for the night.
•Distance: Approximately 22 km (via the Great Ocean Walk route).
•Trail Overview: This section of the Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to Blanket Bay will take around 6-8 hours, depending on your pace and trail conditions. The trail offers a beautiful combination of coastal views, lush forests, and diverse wildlife.
•What to Expect: You will start along the rugged coastline and eventually hike through sections of the Great Otway National Park, encountering rainforests and possibly wildlife like koalas and kangaroos.
•Arrival at Blanket Bay: Find a good spot at the Blanket Bay Campground to set up your tent. The facilities are basic, so make sure you’re prepared with your own water and food.
•Relax and Enjoy Sunset: After a long day of hiking, relax and watch the sunset over the ocean. The peaceful atmosphere is perfect for unwinding. enjoy a dinner under the stars. Blanket Bay’s remote location offers great opportunities for stargazing and enjoying the sounds of nature.
Day 2: Blanket Bay to Aire River (Hiking)
•Begin the Hike from Blanket Bay to Aire River:
•Distance: Approximately 21 km (via the Great Ocean Walk route).
•Trail Overview: The hike from Blanket Bay to Aire River takes about 3-4 hours depending on your pace. The trail follows more coastal views, passes through river crossings, and offers stunning ocean vistas.
•What to Expect: This part of the Great Ocean Walk offers excellent opportunities to spot birdlife and other wildlife, especially as you approach the Aire River area, which is rich in wetlands and waterbirds.
•Arrival at Aire River: Aire River is a tranquil location known for its beautiful river and wetlands. Once you arrive, you can set up a picnic or relax by the river.
•Explore Aire River: Walk around the area and enjoy the serene views. The Aire River estuary is particularly scenic, where you can spot a variety of bird species and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
•Return to Apollo Bay: Once you’ve finished exploring Aire River, you can return to Apollo Bay by arranging transport (either by car, shuttle, or a pickup). The drive takes about 1 hour.
